4717 km Road Trip in Tesla Model Y RWD LFP

Our friend Samir Parakh took delivery of his Tesla Model Y RWD LFP on October 10th and went on a road trip the very next day.


Over 16 days he covered 4,717 km across 7 states & 1 UT.


Route : Mumbai - Ahemdabad - Jodhpur - Bikaner - Delhi - Pantnagar - Kainchi Dham - Kumaon - Nanital - Pantnagar - Alwar - Udaipur - Ahemdabad - Mumbai

Overall Summary - 4,717km driven with 142.8Wh/km efficiency.

When Samir texted us that he is going to take delivery of Model Y and wants to do this trip, if it was possible. We were excited !


Some thing we considered while planning this trip - Maximum power charger possible, at a location which has resting area & food so that family doesn't have any issue. Minimum stops, shortest as possible. But in reality, most stops were longer than needed, there are more non-charging stops. Not because of car or charging, but because this was a road trip with family. You are meant to enjoy it, not rush 1000km without stopping.

Part 1 - Mumbai to Bikaner


Leg 1 - Mumbai to Ahemdabad

605km Journey started with 77% SOC.

First destination - ChargeZone Vesma.

Distance - 246.2km

Efficiency - 128.6Wh/km

ChargeZone 60kW charger Output - 30kW only

Charged to 49%, enough for our next destination.

Next Destination was Shreenath Foodhub CZ KemPower, but had to make a early stop for something and there was a new Shell 120kW charger, charged for few minutes adding 15kWh. Onto Shreenath! Traffic was too much on the whole route


Covering 126.6km from first stop and 28.6km from Shell, reached Shreenath CZ KemPower at 49% SOC


Plugged in, car charged to 100% in the time dinner was done. First calibration of car also

Next stop Ahemdabad! Ahemdabad Arrival Estimation - 62%

But journey took 2-3 hrs more than expected, arrival SoC - 48%

Leg 2 : Ahemdabad to Bikaner


Started with 48%, with first stop as Honest Restaurant Chilode JioBP

Reached there covering about 60km with 34%. JioBP 60kW, didn't connected with car!! No worries tho, we looked for the next stop. Distance since KemPower - 291.7km with 127.2Wh/km

Charger gave 28kW max! Slow DC Charging

Charger was being used by a new Harrier EV. It was almost full. Owner gave the key to remove the car (thank you!). But he also came and removed the car.

Part 2 : Bikaner to Kumaon

Leg 1 : Bikaner to Delhi


Bikaner arrival was at 41%. Charged to 100% at 120kW Xobolt Charger for the trip ahead. Delhi needed to be reached as soon as possible next day.

Nav showed that Delhi was possible with no charge, if driven at average speeds. But we planned first stop as Hotel Royal Rajasthan and Midway Restaurant CZ 60kW

Reached with 18%, but we had seen earlier that location had power cut. Stopped for tea anyway. Distance from Bikaner - 304.6km with 146.8Wh/km

Charged to 100% while waiting for someone.

Last 13.2km from governor house to Apni Rasoi added energy back into the pack with -25.4Wh/km (yes negative efficiency ) = 0.33kWh added

Plugged in at Statiq charger 60kW. Mainly used by buses. One gun faulty. Charged to - 84% Next Destination - Pantnagar Ginger

Started from Alwar with 91%.

Started from Ahemdabad with 88%. Next destination - QMark Food Hub Tata 60kW Initial Estimate - 32%

Had to divert for something to Hyatt Bharuch. There was Statiq charger there, added 7%. Moved on to QMark Tata. Reached with 31% SoC Plugged in.

Now, family had ordered food. But...

Charger only gave 5kW. Improved to 8kW. Another car came, he plugged and unplugged.


Moved to 2nd gun, no improvement. Left after food.


This charger kind of messed it up. But no worries, there are enough options.

Plugged in Gave only 37kW . Another car came, dropped to 18kW.

Next had to stop for something at Ginger Vapi, it had Tata 30kW charger also. Arrived at 36%. Added some odd 10-12%. Opportunity Charging or Always be Charging!!

Next destination was supposed to be - Food Hub Manor Hyundai CZ But misrouted (human error) to Hotel Aaram Glida 2x 60kW Dual gun

Arrived at 34%.

Plugged in, gave full 60kW

Last 48.2km covered with 163Wh/km

Heavy traffic and rain slowed down a lot. Charged to 70%

Next stop was home, but with family, decided to stop at Food Hub Manor Hyundai CZ.

Arrived at 60%.

Last 43.3km covered with 146.6Wh/km.

Again extremely slow traffic. This charging stop was not required for trip.

Was this final part ideal? No. Previous Mumbai to Ahemdabad was smooth. But at no point there was fear of getting stuck. So many options are there. We prioritised ones with food, so that family can enjoy. Tesla handled the trip like a champ.


During the trip Tesla also pushed their first OTA to Indian cars
